Chances are you have been rejected, whether in person or online the whole experience of being rejected can leave you with a multitude of feelings, the biggest question is “Why?”.

There is no full proof method to get exactly who you want when you want, but there are some things you can do to improve your chances.

The biggest mistake in the online world is the First Message, not unlike the first meeting in person, what you write and what you say are the first impressions. Too often people sending that first message to someone they have spotted don’t follow some simple rules;

Senior couple

  • Check your spelling

Too many send too many messages where not only do they misspell simple words they also misspell the users name they are sending the message to.

  • Read their profile before you write them

If someone is looking for something specific in their profile, chances are if you ignore what that is, they will ignore you

  • Engage them, and they may engage you

A three word message usually indicates to the user you sent it to, you were on a fishing expedition. They probably think you cut and paste those three words and have sent the same message to hundreds of others. Chances are the message gets deleted faster than it gets written.

As I said at the start, your first message online is like your first meeting someone new, the first impression is the most important. So, we have created some Sample Opening Messages that you can read through and get some ideas on how to draft something that will at the very least start a dialogue.

Please remember, chances are the person you are messaging has read this too, so use these as ideas, and try and come up with you own unique message.
